Origins of Early Communication Theory
Aristotle viewed communication in terms of an orator who constructs an argument for an audience. The speaker’s goal was to inspire a positive image of himself or herself to encourage the members of the audience to be receptive to the message. For Aristotle, communication is primarily a verbal activity through which speakers tried to persuade the hearers.
