The data analysis is still ongoing and expected to be
completed by July. Below are a few preliminary findings:
• Individuals’ information needs and situations are
significantly different based on the variables of age,
income, race, population density, education, and student
status.
• As part of the information channel selection
analysis, it is interesting to note that while age, income,
race, student status, and information needs/situations
contribute to differences in people’s library use, population
density and education do not. Among the factors, age and
information situation/needs are more likely to have an
impact on the information channel selection, or in this case,
whether to use the library or not.
• People choose different information channels to
address various information needs and situations. There are
significant differences in information channel selection in
meeting various information needs/situations. A further
detailed analysis is needed to identify which variables
contribute to the differences.
