The music from the dance hall was just barely heard by the white-haired boy, making it nearly impossible to escape what he viewed as failure. Ryou sighed heavily, his violet gems never straying from the gushing fountain in front of him, the endless stream of water rather mesmerizing.
Each time Ryou went to ask [Name] to be his date, something prevented him from doing so. Though whether it was a duel, personal issues or just a lack of good timing, the end result was always the same; he lacked confidence, --coupled with a fear of rejection-- so the words never came out.
He should have just asked [Name] right off the bat, instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity. Maybe then he wouldn't be sitting alone outside like the coward he saw himself as. It was then that Ryou came to the decision of leaving. Perhaps the walk home will help clear his regret?
"Ryou..?" A soft voice called out just seconds prior to the boy lifting himself from the stone bench. Attention being pulled to the source, Ryou was met with the form of [Name] standing just a few feet from him, her features holding concern and ever-so-slight befuddlement. "[Name]..."
Her name slipped past his lips before he subconsciously held his breath. The young girl gazed at him, causing him to turn away just to hide the blush that noticeably overtook his pale skin. "Why are you out here?"
She inquired, heels clicking with every step she took, silencing once the [h/c] reached the bench. Ryou began fiddling with his fingers nervously. "Admiring the scenery."
"Oh." Was her reply, a small smile coming to rest on her face. "Mind if I join you then?"
"Not at all." Ryou smiled brightly, masking his nervousness. He moved, allowing [Name] some space next to him. The music from the dance hall began to fade, until the only noise was the fountain. It was then that Ryou turned to his friend shyly, breaking the silence. "I'm sorry..."
He apologized, surprising [Name] slightly with the contents of his sentence. The [h/c] girl didn't have to inquire further, understanding him immediately. "It's okay. Maybe I should have been the one to ask? Hm..."
She replied, humming in thought. When an idea came to her, she brought herself up, holding her hand out to him. "I guess we'll have to improvise then."
She said as Ryou's hand found hers, only for him to be pulled up to stand with her. Feeling a small amount more confident, Ryou bowed, crossing an arm over his chest as [Name] smiled. "May I have this dance?"
"You may~" [Name] replied, curtsying. He placed one hand on her hip, the other intertwined with hers. Ryou leaned in close, and [Name] felt his warm breath on her ear as he sighed. "I actually don't know how to dance, [Name]."
She giggled softly, resting her head on his shoulder. The young girl could hear his pulse quickly beat, from what she guessed was her presence. "That's fine. Just follow my lead."
Swaying gently to the sound of the rushing fountain, [Name] couldn't keep herself from grinning. It was truly a perfect night, with the stars and moon as their audience. The only thing that would make this night even better was if Ryou stopped stepping on her toes.
Not that she complained, of course~
