it was durihg the 1930s, many people were out of work. it was at that time that George Oslin . a Western Union executive, invented the first singing telegram. To a lot of people after World war I, Telegrams were not welcome because they often meant bad news such as the loss of a loved one. When Oslin presented his idea to his bosses, he was told that it was a bad one. However, he didn't give up. He fought for his idea in spite of the opposition of his bosses, and he eventually won. as soon as the singing telegram was stated, it became wildly popular with the U.S. public. Although Western Union made made millions of dollars with his idea, Mr. Oslin didn't die a rich man. The very first singing telegram was sent over the phon, but most telegrams 1930s were delivered in person. Today Western Union no longer offers singing telegrams, but there are other companies that have services where people in costume deliver gifts and sing a song to the person who is receiving the gift.
