Nanoparticles of barium hexaferrite have been prepared by an
auto-combustion sol–gel method. This procedure offers utilization
naturals and nontoxic source instead of chemical materials. Fine
and pure products can be obtained simply when the stoichiometry
and fuels are suitably chosen. The uniform nanoparticles are produced
when the maltose is used as fuel. When the ratio of
Fe3+/Ba2+ reaches 12 larva-like structures in the shaped of
ultra-fine particles are produced. Therefore, as a type of fuel, maltose
and weight ratio of Fe3+/Ba2+ = 12 are chosen as optimum conditions.
The product obtained is a hard magnetic material. The
specific saturation magnetization and coercivity are 48 emu/g
and 5000 Oe, respectively
