Avoiding bad eye contact
Do not look down or read every word of the speech from the notes or computer. You
need to establish eye contact with the audience. It is better to make brief notes that you can
glance at quickly. Also, do not look at the floor or ceiling. If you are nervous, making eye
contact with a supportive audience member can calm you down. Possibly, looking at a person’s
face long enough to complete your thought can also decrease your
