Confidential source of information brought action against newspaper publishers to recover for breach of contract and misrepresentation after publishers revealed his identity. The District Court, Hennepin County, Franklin J. Knoll, J., entered judgment in favor of source. Publishers appealed. The Minnesota Court of Appeals, 445 N.W.2d 248, affirmed in part and reversed in part. Publishers appealed. The Minnesota Supreme Court, 457 N.W.2d 199, affirmed in part and reversed in part. Certiorari was granted. The Supreme Court, Justice White, held that First Amendment did not prohibit source from recovering damages under promissory estoppel law for publishers' breach of promise of confidentiality given in exchange for information.
