Multimodal transportation: Multimodal freight transportation
is defined as the transportation of goods by a sequence of at least
two different modes of transportation (UNECE, 2009). The unit of
transportation can be a box, a container, a swap body, a road/rail
vehicle, or a vessel. As such, the regular and express delivery system
on a regional or national scale, and long-distance pickup and
delivery services are also examples of multimodal transportation.
