mode of intraseasonal variability in the tropical atmosphere.
It consists of large (10,000 km across) positive
and negative convective cloud anomalies that propagate
eastward across the warm pool region, from the Indian
Ocean to the western Pacific. These are accompanied
by circulation anomalies that are global in extent. The
MJO affects monsoon systems across the tropics, impacts
on extratropical weather regimes, and plays a role
in the triggering and onset of El Ni˜no events. Comprehensive
