Fisheries and aquaculture worldwide in 2013 reached 160 million tons of fish (FAO, 2014) and global production may continue to grow. Brazil produces about 2 million tons of fish, with 40% farmed fish. The species most widely produced in the country is the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), accounted for 46.62% of the national production and is farmed in the northeastern, southeastern and southern regions, while the pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) is created in the center west region and is the second most native fish produced in the country, with 21689.3 tons in 2011
