Daily blood samples (10 ml) were collected from the jugular vein of some of the animals using vacutainers
and needles in June 1996 as follows: 2 days prior to sponge insertion; on the day of sponge insertion;
from the day of treatment through to the withdrawal of the sponges (18 days),
and between 5 to 7 days post-sponge withdrawal from animals in Group T.
From animals in Group C blood was sampled at 2 to 3 days intervals, to monitor the activity of the corporalutea.
