2.9.2. Disc diffusion method
Antimicrobial activity of film samples was assessed via the agar diffusion method. Film samples were aseptically cut into discshapes of 10 mm diameter and then placed on MHA plates, which had been previously smeared with 100 l of broth culture containing approximately 108CFU/ml of typical food pathogens. The plates were incubated at 37◦C for 24 h. The diameter of the inhibitionzone was measured using a caliper to the nearest 0.02 mm. Thefilm samples’ antimicrobial index was measured based on the total area using the following equation [37]:Antimicrobial index = (Area of inhibition zone – Area offilm)/Area of film (7)
