3.2.1. Viable microbial biomass
Examination of the total bacterial viable count using nutrient agar planting revealed that the natural forest contained the highest culturable bacterial population (4.3 106 cfu g1). There was also an increased viable microbial count in the restored soil compared to the burned oil palm plantation soils (118% higher) (ANOVA p < 0.05) (Fig. 2).
