The purpose of this work was to test pigments extracted from
established spalting fungi S. cuboideum (red), S. ganodermophthorum
(yellow) and Chlorociboria aeruginosa (green) as color
modifiers of blue stain in Pinus spp. samples. Successful use of the
pigments in this type of application could revolutionize the spalting
process and help industry commercialize a process that has long
been relegated to small business owners and crafters.
