Smart Catch is a program designed to increase demand and availability of sustainable seafood by working with chefs and restauranteurs. Smart Catch is working with chefs because they have the potential to make a significant impact in sustainable seafood.
The idea and initial funding for Smart Catch came from Vulcan Founder and Chairman Paul G. Allen, a long-time ocean advocate and explorer. Program partners includes from Flip Labs, FishChoice.com, C+C as well as Vulcan team members.
Smart Catch launched in Seattle in July 2015 with plans to expand to other locations in the future.
Why Sustainable Seafood?
Developing a sustainable seafood supply is important for overall ocean health, particularly as environmental changes affect fish populations. Also, sustainable seafood has been identified as one of the Top 10 restaurant trends for 2015 by the National Restaurant Association and is part of increasing consumer demand for environmentally sustainable foods.
Smart Catch is designed to support chefs and suppliers interested in offering more sustainable seafood and give diners a simple way to identify and choose restaurants that serve sustainable seafood.
