The Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal, which
commenced operations in May 2013, is a key
government initiative to diversify the sources of gas
supply to Singapore to strengthen energy resilience and
security. SP is working closely with the Energy Market
Authority and the Singapore Liquefied Natural Gas
Corporation Pte Ltd to connect the LNG Terminal to its
existing transmission networks.
More industrial consumers and power stations now
have access to gas supply from the LNG Terminal,
following the completion and commissioning of 20km
of gas transmission pipelines and the Bahar Offtake
Station in January 2014. This followed the first phase
– completed in March 2013 – which involved the laying
of underground pipelines, construction of gas offtake
stations in Jurong Island and Tuas South, and laying a
submarine pipeline across the West Jurong Channel.
