This result shows that those who receive adequate safety
measures tend to rate the importance of safety measures lower
than those who get insufficient safety facilities and amenities. To
illustrate, backpackers who stayed at guest houses and bungalows,
which do not invest much on safety measures, placed the highest
importance on all safety measures, whereas guests who stayed at
upscale hotels, which tend to invest more on safety measures than
other hotel types, placed the lowest importance. Due to the fact that
several buildings of upscale hotels on the Hua Hin and Cha-Am
beaches are two to three storey buildings built on cement foundations,
and even though several of these are high-rise buildings,
such solid construction ensures guest safety in the event of one to
three meter tsunamis. Consequently, tourists who stayed in such
facilities were less concerned than backpackers.
