The bid to build a new airport has been frustrated again after a similar attempt in 2011. ADP Ingénierie, a French airport engineering firm wholly owned by Aéroports de Paris, and the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation concluded on June 21 that the best way to meet the growing need for airport capacity in the nation's southeast is to expand the existing airport in Gimhae, near Busan instead of building a new one.
