Maternal Beliefs and Practices Related to Infant Feeding
Responses to the maternal beliefs and practices questions are summa- rized in Table 4. The majority of mothers were not worried that their infant would be either underweight (77%) or overweight (70%). Almost half (46%) of the mothers reported no worry that their infant was eating too much or not enough (50%). Overall, more than 80% of the moth- ers believed that they knew when their infant was hungry and/or full. Approximately one-third of mothers (36%) reported always feeding their infant on a schedule, while 23% reported feeding their infant on demand, whenever he/she wanted to eat.
