KUCHING: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is recruiting ‘police volunteer reserve’ for those interested to contribute to peace keeping in society.
Inspector Chong Teck Mun from the state police Crime Prevention and Eradication Department said there were about 1,200 volunteers in the state who apart from peace-keeping, act as supporting team to the police force.
“This programme creates understanding about police duties and members are trained to be disciplined,” he said at a police volunteer reserve recruitment public forum at The Green Ribbon Association Kuching (TGRAK) here on Monday.
He said the volunteers could be the eyes and ears of the police to provide useful information. There are various areas they can get involved such as patrolling, crime and traffic.
It is open to Malaysians aged 18 to 45 with SPM and no criminal record. They will go through physical tests and oral tests.
Males should have height of 162cm and above and female 152cm and above, males should not weigh less than 50kg and female not less than 48kg.
Those interested should bring along their personal documents include birth certificate, identity card (IC), parents’ birth certificate and IC, two passport size photos, SPM certificate and school leaving certificate.
Chong said volunteers would be paid RM6 per hour while on duty. They will also get bounty allowance per year for carrying out duties for certain hours.
The walk-in interview will be conducted at Kelab Polis, IPK Sarawak from 7am to 5pm from June 25 to 27. The same programme will be conducted in IPD Miri, Sibu and Bintulu.
