It is quite dangerous to translate “motherland” as “mẫu quốc” as each single syllable meaning.
People from the United States and former Bristish colonists would sometimes describe the
United Kingdom as the "Mother Country", often carrying a strong British Imperialist
connotation. Other Vietnamese versions such as “đất mẹ, quê mẹ”, still, bring about an
unnatural feeling; hence, “quê hương” should be the best translation.
