To address this, a team of two full-time CNSs and a pre-assessment nurse
at the centre planned and undertook an initiative to redesign services.
They thought that due to the design of their service not all patients had adequate time with a CnS,
leading to inequity of care. The intention of the changes was to ensure gynaecological cancer
patients had an opportunity to complete a holistic assessment in a supportive environment before having surgery.
This led to the development of a ‘supportive care clinic’, which is now embedded in practice.
