Peau d’Âne was first published by Charles Perrault in 1694. It’s a fairy tale of a princess who has to fight off the advances of her father by asking him for the most extravagant dresses (the color of the weather, the color of the moon, and the color of the sun) and who finally flees to the forest. Hiding under a donkey skin, there she meets her prince charming, and gets reunited by a ring in a cake. French director Jacques Demy filmed the story in 1970 which featured Catherine Deneuve as the princess and Jean Marais as the king.
Peau d’Âne Raconté par Van Cleef & Arpels is divided into 3 different chapters based on the fairy tale’s phases- The Childhood, The Forest and The Wedding. Each chapter comprises of a set of fine jewelry- necklace, earrings, ring, bracelet, clip and brooch are there in the different chapters of the collection. Here is a little detail of the collection Peau d’Âne Raconté par Van Cleef & Arpels:
The Childhood
Van Cleef & Arpels has come up with, perhaps, the best way of story-telling by dedicating a piece of fine jewelry to each important incident that took place in the story.
