With this study, we have attempted to explore specific
haematological morbidities among a high-risk cohort, for
whom a significant published evidence base is lacking.
While outcomes among our cohort have been favourable,
this study is limited by the small size of the cohort, which
may account in part for the low rates of obstetric and
medical complications observed.
In the absence of further additions to the evidence
base in this area, improvements in the provision of obstetric
care to patients with cardiac disease will likely be
dependent upon close co-operation between clinicians
and other stakeholders involved in delivering care to this
challenging patient group.
