The generation rates of hazardous waste at selected healthcare
facilities surveyed in this study are presented in Table 3. The data
showed that the range of hazardous waste generation varies from
0.038 kg/patient-day (for a small hospital with 10 beds) to
1.177 kg/patient-day (for very large complex hospital with 882
beds). This observation is consistent with other researchers’ findings
on hazardous healthcare waste generation (Mohee, 2005; Diaz
et al., 2008) in which the generation rate raise with an increase in
facility size and activities.
