The FIBA, through the Qatar Basketball Association, sent an invitation for a selection by the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) for a coach and two local players – a boy and a girl – to attend the said event.
The BBA officers — husband and wife — texted local coaches to see if they were interested to travel for the camp but eventually selected a lady fitness manager to go to the camp which was for coaches involved in high school and youth basketball.
The BBA officers then sent their youngest daughter to represent one of the players required to attend.
We in the basketball community see this as an opportunity gone waste.
The BBA will have to deal with this issue as an unified organisation to protect the real vision and mission as the country’s official national basketball association.
In the future, there should be clear guidelines for the selection process to be followed by any sports association should there be an available camp sponsored by any independent organisation.
