Durian is one of the most expensive fruits in the world considering the edible
portion is only 40% of the whole fruit (Monthong cultivar). Every people involved in
durian business pays for 60% waste. For exportation, in order to reduce the
transportation cost of the shell weight, to ensure the quality of the pulp and to
discard the difficulty in opening the sharp spine fruit, an extension of shelf-life from
1 day to several weeks is certainly needed. Having durian problem every year at the
early season when the price is high causes the immature fruit piled up in both local
and export markets.
