AMF infection rates of both mungbean and rice were higher in the intercropping treatment than that in the monocropping treatment. It is well known that AMF can easily colonize legume roots. Many previous studies showed that most legume crops, for example, mungbean, were the good hosts for AMF (Haugen and Smith 1992; Khasa et al. 1992; Lin et al. 2001;
Kasiamdari et al. 2002; Sprent and James 2007). This study gained similar high AMF infection rates for mungbean either in monocropping or in intercropping practice. Mechanisms on the promotion of AMF colonization of roots by intercropping are not clear up to now and need to be studied further.
