Thailand's large rice paddies are spread across the Chao Phraya river basin (Central Plain). Crops such as rice, grains and rubber are shipped to markets by boat, rail and transport trucks. The distance from markets is less important because these crops are less perishable. Other crops that spoil easily are grown in regions nearer to the main cities. Mixed gardening is a term used to describe farmers that grown crops such as fruits and vegetables. For mixed garden farmers, it is important to be nearer to cities because farmers want to deliver their crops to the markets while the product are still fresh. Poultry and livestock farmers are also located near to the cities.
