At a developed stage of maturity, the quantity of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin in grasses can make
up 65 to 70% of the dry matter. Usually the whole, aboveground portions of the plants are harvested
and used for direct combustion for heat and/or power, cellulosic conversion to ethanol, thermochemical
processes for fuel supplements, or anaerobic digestion for methane.
