In general, the construction of dams, have led to loss of the large areas of forest and also agricultural land during site preparation. Furthermore, under dam operation the greater regulation of flood cycle, fewer flood events on the natural flood plain occurs resulting in the reduction of soil fertility restoring process from sediment and nutrients deposition downstream. Soil needs to be better matched to its uses to increase production, while at the same time attempting to protect the environment (avoid or minimize pollution of water, atmosphere, and food chain). It is therefore essential to have detailed and in-depth knowledge of potentials and limitations for the future uses.
