As shown in Fig. 1, pollen of ‘cv. C’ collected on the day 0and immediately placed in the germination medium gave highgermination percentage (21.93%; Fig. 1(1.1a). However, pollenof ‘cv. B’ collected at day −1 and day 0, with or without 24-h dark incubation, all gave low germination percentage (<10%;Fig. 1(1.1b)). In addition, the pollen of ‘cv. C’ collected at day 0and cultured in the media with 20% sucrose gave the highest ger-mination percentage (34.44%), however it was not significantlydifferent from the values obtained from the media containing 0%,5%, 10% and 15% sucrose (Fig. 1(1.3a)). Unlike ‘cv. C’, pollen of‘cv. B’ collected at day 0 and cultured in the media containing 5%sucrose; and the pollen collected at day −1 and cultured in themedia supplemented with 15% sucrose gave high pollen germi-nation percentages (35.13% and 23.23%, respectively; Fig. 1(1.3b).For ‘cv. C’, the combination of non-incubation and culture mediacontaining 5% and 20% sucrose gave high values of germination(46.64% and 41.11%, respectively; Fig. 1(1.5a). Moreover, for ‘cv.C’ it was found that the combination among three factors whichgave the highest germination percentage was for pollen collec-tion on day 0 without 24-h dark incubation period and culturedwith the medium supplemented with 5% sucrose (62.57%) or 20%sucrose (68.89%) (data not shown). For ‘cv. B’ however, the condi-tion which gave the highest percentage germination (29.24%) wasto use fresh pollen without the 24-h incubation and the mediumcontaining 5% sucrose. The second highest percentage germina-tion (24.69%) was obtained when the pollen was incubated for24-h prior to germination in the medium supplemented with 15%sucrose (Fig. 1(1.5b)).The developmental
