Conclusion This chapter has covered a lot of ground about learning, looking at the characteristics of adult learners and basic theories of learning especially the experiential and existentialist approaches to learning, in which the complexity of learning processes themselves was recognized. Finally, the complexity of the person's approach to learning has been discussed. Ulti mately, it is argued that learning is the driving force of the individual, and that through learning, people grow and develop. Philosophically, learning is about both being 'and'becoming'. We have examined adult learners and adult learning, but we have examined in detail few of the learning theorists. Consequently, the next chapter is devoted to elaborating upon the work of a number of the main Ones.
