John noticed the badly distorted leg of the driver, hanging awkwardly from the car. He cursed Rachel for having driven off before coming back with the first-aid kit and torch. With a brief shiver he removed his own shirt, quickly put his jacket back on, and tore the shirt into strips to make a bandage. Clearly this was no time to wait or worry about what Rachel would say about his shirt. He struggled to recall what his first-aid training had been, some 15 years previously, then pulled the leg straight before tying two ankles together, to keep the tension on the broken leg. He then applied a further bandage to stem the flow of bleeding.
