Comparative HPLC-analysis of methanolic crude extracts of different organs from R. alpinia and R. cernua revealed organ-specific differences in the profile of compounds ( Fig. 2.). The rhizomes of R. alpinia were found to accumulate various diarylheptanoids (1, 3–7) and [2]-gingerol (8), whereas all of the other studied organs (roots, leaves and seeds) accumulated the labdane diterpenes (E)-8(17),12-labdadiene-15,16-dial (12) and zerumin A (13). A series of unidentified compounds was found in the rhizome of R. alpinia with UV-spectra similar to that of 1 and 3–7.
