Reconfigurable kanban System (RKS), developed by Mohanty
et al. (2003), aims at being more responsive and with lower
inventory costs. The main difference from the kanban system is
being reconfigurable in terms of the total number of signals. The
authors present the RKS as a simulation model focusing on
controlling the additional number of signals based on a difference
between demand and the production rate of the corresponding
product. This reconfiguration on the quantity of signals makes the
adaptation relevant to production systems with unstable demand.
