This chapter will present the objectives of the manual;it will briefly describe what is meant by earnings and other work related income statistics,and the type of workers covered by the various concepts .It will be making reference to the framework on measuring work statistics adopted by the 19th ICLS in 2013,and the need to expand the current international concepts to all workers.The chapter will discuss the importance of producing good statistics on work-related income,their main uses/applications and will touch on the basic requirements of the statistics on earnings and other work related income,e.g.;the need for complete worker coverage,reduced response burden and response errors,sufficient disaggregation by relevant explanatory variables,sufficient disaggregation by relevant remuneration components,coherence with working time and employment statistics and timeliness issues.
