Lifeline for digital TV operators
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) yesterday agreed to extend the second payment period of digital TV licence fees by one year to ease channel operators' huge investment burden.
Takorn Tantasith, the NBTC secretary-general, said the board agreed in principle with the broadcasting committee's
proposal, which was aimed at making the country's digital TV transition as smooth as possible.
Many operators are facing difficulties amid the economic downturn and uncertainty in the broadcasting industry, exacerbated by delays in the digital TV subsidy scheme, which began distributing coupons to Thai households only last month.
