the industries. None of the industries had well developed plan and
program relative to occupational health and safety. Few safety
committees existed in the industries which were non-functional
without having well written and clear goals. No first-aid kits were
present in the studied sections however, all industries had small
clinics headed by nurses which provide curative treatment for
the injured workers. Observational findings found a limited display
of safety information through pictures, signs, posters and labels,
absence of emergency showers and material safety data sheets
for chemicals that were used in the workplace. Some of the industries
had recorded work-related injuries or illnesses but they did
not report to Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MOLSA), a
responsible body in Ethiopia. There were no well trained safety
professionals responsible for the overall activities of safety and
health. Training regarding occupational safety was not given on
schedule.
