Part 5: Select transgenic progeny
Red eyes are the visible marker that allows you to select the transgenic flies. You will anesthetize the progeny and identify red-eyed and white-eyed flies. For almost a month, this is the moment you've been waiting for. Did the experiment work? If you get any flies with red eyes, the answer is yes. If you have no red-eyed flies, then the experiment has failed—but you can evaluate your procedures and try the experiment again.
