Sm3+ dope zinc Bismuth borate glasses. Convert concentration of bismuth (III) oxide 1 mole percent. of the composition (59-X)B2O3 – 30Li2O – 10ZnO – XBi2O3 – 1Sm2O3 have been synthesized by conventional melt quenching technique at 1,100 °C for 3 hours. In order to understand the role of Sm2O3 in zinc Bismuth borate glasses systems with Sm3+ dope , the physical, optical and luminescence properties were investigated. The results showed that the density increased whereas the molar volume decreased with increasing Bi2O3 concentrations. The optical absorption spectra of glasses were measured in the wavelength range of 200 – 2,500 nm for Bismuth borate. The intensity of all absorption bands increased with increasing Bi2O3 contents. In addition, the luminescence properties of Bismuth borate dope zinc Bismuth borate glasses system were carried out using excitation wavelengths of 404 nm, for Sm2O3 doped glasses, respectively. For Sm3+doped glasses, the luminescence peaks around 563, 600, 645, and 706 nm were observed.
