Harangi river is a major tributary to river Cauvery and has its origin in Pushpagiri Hills, Coorg District situated on its western part and separated from Bhagamandala, the source of Cauvery. The study area geographically lies between 750 38′ E and 750 55′ E longitude and 120 24′ N and 120 40′ N latitude, with the catchment area of 417.54 km2
