Mike's Story
Join Gore & Change Comfort: The GORE-TEX® Footwear Story
"Our lattice structure really lends itself to providing support for people."
Growing Into Responsibility
Mike’s decision to start at Gore as a product development engineer for the Fabrics Division rested on two primary factors: He connected with the people he met during his interview process and the products were very attractive to him. From the beginning of his career at Gore, Mike felt the innate trust in the individual. He remembers: “At Gore, when you want to stretch and take on responsibility for a challenge, your teammates and leaders are willing to support you in stretching to reach your goal.”
Encouragement by the Team
A series of product development efforts and successes in the market, led Mike to take on greater responsibility: leading the group focused on the casual footwear category. “Early on, I became involved with projects that were maybe a little bit more than I thought I could handle at the time. But people encouraged me and said ‘you can do this. And not only are we going to be giving you this responsibility, but there is a strong support network’. Our lattice structure really lends itself to providing support for people.”
Reflecting on Reasons to Stay
Asked why he continues to stay at Gore, Mike laughs: “The reasons that I chose Gore from the start are the same reasons why I stay at Gore today, and continue to have fun every day: It’s the people. Our team is a great team, and I think that is reflected or echoed across the entire enterprise. And the products that we’re working on are still interesting, innovative and meeting consumer needs to the level that really makes you feel good about what you are doing.”
