One of the main topics explored in this study was the management of daily life. How do these women look after themselves when they are far from home with a life-threatening disease and often with the major responsibility to care and support others? In particular, how do they deal with what has been characterised as a ‘changing risk landscape’(Green & Sobo, 2000)? In the women’s own accounts of their coping strategies, three main themes emerged: the management of information, use of medical services and reliance on religious faith.
