Using a graphic organizer is a powerful strategy for helping all
students and it especially helps English Language Learners with organizing
and remembering information. Because graphic organizers are both
visual and spatial, they help students retain concepts. The writer suggests
giving a copy of the graphic organizer to the ELL who can then copy the
information as the teacher writes on the overhead projector. The ELL can
refer later to the organizer for study and translation to the first language.
