The remaining thirteen items which loaded onto two components were then segregated into two sub-scales. The original Ang et al. CQ scale (2007) had four sub-scales which consisted of CQ strategy (4 items), CQ knowledge (6 items), CQ motivation (5 items) and CQ behavior (5 items). The remaining thirteen items in this research had six items loaded into one component and the remaining seven items on the other component. Upon closer inspection of the groupings, the first component had items that belonged to the strategy and knowledge CQ sub-scales from the original Ang et al.’s CQ scale (2007). Based on the definition of CQ strategy and knowledge by Earley and Ang (2003) as elements that are inherent in a person where they are aware of the differences between cultures around them and are conscious of the adjustments that have to be made in a cross-cultural setting, we opted to name this CQ sub-scale as awareness CQ (CQAWARE). The remaining items belonged to the CQ motivation and behavior sub-scales from the original CQ scale developed by Ang et al. (2007). Based on the definitions by Earley and Ang (2003), these sub-scales were labelled as awareness CQ (CQAWARE) and interaction CQ (CQINTER).
