Ferulic, pcoumaric,
syringic, and isoferulic acids are present as bound forms
in white, red and black rice grains (Shao et al., 2014). The content of
phenolic acids in brown rice was significantly higher than in milled
rice (Zhou et al., 2004). Distribution of phenolic acids varies in
botanical parts of the rice kernel. Ferulic acid is predominant in the
bran whereas vanillic and p-coumaric acids are concentrated in the
husk (Butsat and Siriamornpun, 2010). Phenolic acids display positive
effects on several human chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular,
cancer, obesity, diabetes (Slavin et al., 1997; Liu, 2007). Their
content in rice may be related to grain color, size and weight (Shen
et al., 2009) and controlled by genetic factors (Shao et al., 2011)
