When Elaine got to skill 2 she was able to shift from an imposed to an aligned motivational outlook by aligning her goal to her developed values. “I had not taken the time to consider how important the event was to our business, how appreciative I was to be trusted enough to be put in charge, or how grateful I was to have the skills and experience to pull it off. For the first time, I saw this as an opportunity to develop members of my staff. I was in a position to help them gain skills and experience that would serve them and the organization moving forward. It also dawned on me that I was the one who accepted the offer to take on the event –– I could have said no, but I didn’t.”
