First, a new or unused card number must be assigned as the
replacement card number. As used here, new and unused mean
that the replacement card number assigned does not exist in
CardLinK at the time of its assignment. In other words, no other
customer is currently using the card number assigned. It should
be noted that there is a difference between tagging a card
number in your external record of unissued card numbers or
independent card number generating system as ‘unused,’ while at
the same time having that card number already existing in
CardLinK for one reason or another.
