Currently, there is little information regarding the impact of ambient air pollution on motor neuron diseases. ALS is the most common motor neuron degenerative disease defined by selective and progressive motor neuron death, both of the lower motor neurons (in brainstem and spinal cord) and the upper motor neurons (in the motor cortex) [68, 69]. This pathology leads to muscle atrophy, weakness, fasciculations, and spasticity [70] to culminate in impaired voluntary movement and eventual fatality with respiratory failure/pulmonary complications [
